Colonies of Imperceptible Beings
In this series I imagine taking steps back in time before computing, overpopulation and competition for limited resources generated a starving planet. I retreat from society to embed in nature and open spaces, hiding but still participating, at distances challenging my camera’s capture and a viewer’s ability to see me. I appreciate the feeling that it is enough just to be an element of nature.
As trust and communal belonging becomes increasingly fraught, humans parse life into quantifiable commodities, extricating themselves from the web of nature and all living things into which they were born. I choose to be small and enduring in communion with vast horizons and indefinite colonies of infinitesimal and imperceptible beings living (with)in open land. I dream in their presence and fear their loss.
